What is Excessive Sweating?

Also known as Hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating is a condition that affects many people. Patients can find this embarrassing and this condition can cause problems for social lives. Excessive sweating can affect the whole body or just certain areas. The condition can get better or worse with age and be difficult to overcome.

Botulinum Toxin Type-A is a prescription-only medication that can be used for the temporary reduction of underarm sweating. A Hyperhydrosis treatment works by blocking the neurotransmitter, Acetylcholine, from activating the eccrine sweat glands to produce sweat. Botulinum Toxin Type-A is injected into the desired site to relieve symptoms of excessive sweating.

Normally patients will notice positive results 2-14 days after treatment. Patients will need regular treatments to continue seeing the effects. It is suggested treatments are repeated every 6-9 months.
