Skin Laxity Treatments London Bridge

Skin laxity, or loose, sagging skin is a common condition. It becomes more prominent as we age. It is inevitable that you will experience skin laxity at some point in your life. The question is, what can you do about it?

What causes skin laxity?

Age-related skin laxity is caused by the loss of two vital proteins, collagen and elastin, within the deeper layer of the skin, the dermis. A lessening of elastin causes a reduction in skin elasticity. A reduction of collagen causes a general breakdown of the skin’s structure. Why exactly collagen and elastin production becomes lesser as we age is not widely known as other factors most probably come into play, such as lifestyle choices, sun exposure and both internal and external pollutants.

Skin laxity treatments

The key objective of non-invasive skin laxity treatments is to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin. There are a few treatments that can do this, depending on the location of the skin laxity itself.

One treatment that is becoming more popular is a skin booster treatment, sometimes also termed a bio-remodeler treatment.

The treatment involves a thinner, sometimes modified version of traditional hyaluronic acid, a biocompatible substance that occurs naturally in the body. Small amounts of the skin booster are injected at precise points in the skin. These treatments have a dual purpose, to increase skin hydration and thus volume, and the stimulation of the production of new collagen and elastin. Read more about skin boosters here.

Another popular treatment we offer for skin laxity is microneedling. Microneedling is another effective treatment for collagen and elastin stimulation but works in a different way. Microneedling is sometimes also known as collagen induction therapy and uses the process of microdamage to stimulate the skin to produce more of the desired proteins. (read about microneedling here).

Both of the above treatments have additional benefits. A reduction in the appearance of fine lines is one and a smoother skin texture is another.

Which treatment we suggest will depend on a combination of factors: The location of the skin laxity itself, its extent, the condition of your skin, and our expertise in deciding exactly what is going to give you the results you desire.
